Life (in memory of Chubby, my contemplative dog)
As we thread the paths of life
And pause to look behind
Will we see deep regret
Or feel joy undefined
Will we see the shadows of disappointment
And taste loneliness or doubt
Or count each and every blessing
And then with thanksgiving pour out
And as we walk down these paths of life
And stop to look ahead
Will hope lighten our feet
Or just trudge on with fear and dread
Will we see the brightness of a future
And the promise of a new day
Or feel the drag of every moment
And expect unfulfilled prayers
What truly makes a man different
Is not his looks, his wealth or his gifts
But tis how he views himself
And in God's great plan, lives
