A Close Brush With Death

Yesterday, I went down to Subang Jaya on a short day trip to spend some quality time with some friends. I asked another friend to accompany me as well; just in case I became sleepy.

It was a pretty fun day and time flew by fast. By the time, I realized it, it was 10.45pm and I was a bit on the sleepy side. I decided to go back to Seremban fast and forego any extra plans for 'yumchar' (***Translation: having a drink)

Having encountered an accident before due to sleepiness, I took no chances this time and I made two stops; one for coffee at McDonalds at the Sungai Besi Toll and another at the Seremban rest stop. I must say, coffee still works, albeit only for 10 minutes on my system.

While coming back, my friend brought up the topic of 'dirty things' or ghosts that his parents has encountered on the highway. He mentioned how his father's car has lost control although he wasn't tired or sleepy. I think these things need to be taken with a pinch of salt for there are many other possibilities; an oil patch or crosswinds. Anyway, in my heart, I quickly uttered a prayer for journey mercies. Frankly, I don't really care much about dying but I don't want to take any passengers along with me.

Anyhow, we arrived safely and I sent my friend home. It was already Sunday 12.30 am. It was a small neighborhood and the roads were narrow.

As I was going downhill, I suddenly had a sense of foreboding.

There was this lorry headed uphill in my direction.

Suddenly, it moved diagonally into my path.

Oh shit! am I going to have my first and last experience of a head-on collision?!

I quickly gave three successive honks.

Miraculously, the driver made a wide swerve at the last instant and I was spared a nasty experience.

If you want my opinion, I think the other driver fell asleep at the wheel.

On a side note, I think in a possible accident situation, it's either you who moves or the other driver who moves. However, when it was hard to anticipate the other person's actions, I somehow stayed put. Don't know if this is the correct logic but it saved my skin. Two persons swerving into the same lane isn't exactly a pleasant scenario.

On another side note, I think I played one too many computer games. I don't really panic on the road and I tend to react instead of shouting and panicking. Hmm... to be honest, I think it's a good thing.. Heh... heh...

Anyway, don't get me wrong, I am grateful to God for sparing me from an ugly accident. I am glad to be alive and I really want to blog this. Shucks, I'm going to be late for church. I wanted to blog it early this morning but the line was throwing a hissy fit.

Sometimes, you do your best and take all the precautions to avoid incidents like accidents. Unfortunately, in this world, we are all inter-related. One individual's actions affects others. Even if you try not to cause an accident, others may hit you as well. Heh, the stuff of movies. Well, I'm still alive, still a bit blur and still blogging. Amen to that. Ooops, off to church!

I see you've categorized this as a religious..mmm.. I think if you were your sleepy self - your reaction would have been considerably delayed. Your coffee intake not only allowed you to remain awake; but you gave yourself quick reaction time to assess what was happening and react accordingly. You saved a life today - not just yours, but the driver in the truck. Hopefully, he/she decided to take a coffee break too.

Thanks to you Jonzz, his truck might've ended up in a ditch, into a tree or hit a mini-van full of sleeping children and a tired father. Things - everything happens for a reason. You made a good decision. Then again, maybe you'll sleep over instead of driving home next time.

Glad you made it home safe. *high5*

Coffee is good Jonzz. I've had close encounters with falling asleep at the wheel at night. So easy to do with such deadly results.

Coffee works for me, getting a lot of sleep the night before, opening all the windows in the car, playing disco music really loud. LOL!

woah, thank the LORD that an accident didn't occur.

your account reminded me how dangerous it could be driving on the roads late at night in bolehland. I used to go Mersing often (every 2-3 times a year) for my fishing dose, and we travel at night! You know the road (no. 3) in Mersing! some parts are so winding that if you just happen to nod off, you'll end up in the rubber plantation or against a big tree strong enough to stop and flatten your vehicle.

Never drive at night along countryroads (for me only) in bolehland. Mist, resting buffaloes, livestock, sleeping drivers..etc. Too much risk.

HEY! Not trying to control your blog or anything. I wanted to make sure to remind you to remove any links to that old Annie blog (aka the porn site now). You've got some links made to that old blog from some blog entries you made like my birthday greeting..*smile*

Don't want anyone to think I'm a perverted Annie and all and you linking to porn sites and stuff.

Just don't want you to get yourself in a embarrassing situation.
